GAMERS ENGAGED LAUNCHES THE NINETH ANNUAL CHARITY GAMING TOURNAMENT SUPPORTING DIVERSITY, EMPOWERMENT, AND EDUCATION.
SEATTLE— On May 21st, Gamers Engaged, the Seattle-based and founded nonprofit, is bringing The Gauntlet back in the way people know and love – an in-person event, hosted by our wonderful partners at Mox Boarding House, Bellevue! After two (2) years without an in-person event, we returned last year with The Gauntlet: Journey and are equally excited to return with our ninth Gauntlet – The Gauntlet: Fables. We’re uniting gamers and game makers alike to compete for Game to Grow, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the use of games for therapeutic, educational, and community growth.
“We’re thrilled to be hosting our ninth annual Gauntlet! This event is special because it’s one of the few times that folks from the games industry and community get to gather to play their hobby – often, if they’re in the same room, it’s to promote their work. At the Gauntlet, it’s a space to celebrate the hobby, whilst also raising money for important causes. It’s a true testament to the power of play. – Lyla Ross
The Gauntlet: Fables is a four-week charity fundraiser that culminates in a full day of competitive board games and trivia with teams battling for the illustrious Gauntlet trophy! Just like at previous versions of The Gauntlet, we will be streaming on Twitch, live from Mox Boarding House, Bellevue! Competitors will be exploring our fabled woodlands via board games, trivia, and a custom designed finale. We welcome several new teams this year like The Pokémon Company International employee team and Nintendo of America employee team, as well as returning vets like Monolith Productions and Wizards of the Coast, and the defending champions, Team Phoenix!
“The pandemic really put a damper on the face-to-face interactions within our gaming community, and it is exciting to have many of our veteran teams back, as well as a whole slew of new faces.“ – Lyla Ross
While winning the main event earns teams The Gauntlet trophy, they will also be competing against each other for the #1 slot on The Gauntlet fundraising leaderboard to support Game to Grow in their mission to provide gaming groups for positive growth, train others to use game-based interventions to benefit their own communities, and promote awareness of the life-enriching potential of games across the world. These donations will also unlock power-ups to aid them as they compete in a series of tabletop games to win glory, and victoriously hoist The Gauntlet!
“This year, we have chosen Game to Grow as our beneficiary. They are a nonprofit (501c3), dedicated to the use of games of all kinds, most notably Dungeons & Dragons, for therapeutic, educational, and community growth. They have been doing fantastic work with youth and young adults to build confidence, community, and social skills- all critical elements to building healthy and whole individuals. We are ready to shine a light on their important work!” – Lyla Ross
About Gamers Engaged
Founded in 2013 by Lyla Ross, Gamers Engaged offers a unique experience that was created with the gaming community in mind. Originally the corporate giving arm of Card Kingdom, Gamers Engaged is now a registered 501(c)(3). Each year, the Gamers Engaged team hosts The Gauntlet, a day of games and giving at Mox Boarding House, Bellevue. Game companies and gaming community members from within the Puget Sound area are invited to compete in a gauntlet of tabletop games to raise money for a nonprofit that directly affects our community. Since 2013, we have raised just under $1M for local nonprofits, including Hopelink, YouthCare, Wellspring, and Treehouse through the Gauntlet and beyond.
